Heroin addiction is dangerous. Both smoking and injecting have the same effects. In fact, it is seen that people end up injecting themselves with the heroin after they have smoked the drug . It affects the health and the physical well being of the men as well as the women in the same way.

People get heroin addiction because the drug triggers the pleasure senses in the body. People develop serious health complications both at the physical level as well as at the psychological level. Long term use of the drug can cause serious health implications on the mental framework of the person. It disturbs the balance of the chemicals responsible for proper functioning of the brain and it constrains a healthy individual from developing a healthy relationship or successful career for themselves.

Short-Term Effects of Heroin

Abusers normally report the pain in his/her brain known as "Rush". Heroin is harmful to the skin, mouth, and brain. Heroin is converted into morphine and attacks the brain. The mental functions are rushed by heroin's effect. Due to the use of heroin, sometimes heroin addicts have difficulty breathing.

Some short term effects are:

Rush
Disheartened respiration
Problem in mental functioning
Nausea and vomiting

Long-Term Effects of Heroin

There are many long term effects of heroin abuse. The main effect is addiction. When a person uses this drug regularly, he may get habitual to this drug . Abusing the drug increases the level of tolerance to it and makes a person feel dependent on it.

Some long term effects are:

An increase in chances of getting HIV
Bacterial infections
Infection on heart lining and valves
other injurious problems like hepatitis B & C
